Today marks the American Invasion of Great Britain, led by Bill Haley and the Comets. Elvis may have stolen his thunder here in the States, but across the pond they were still mad for Haley. Years later, he would spend his last days in Harlingen, recounted here by Mike Hall.

On this day in 1970, a wake was held to celebrate the life of Janis Joplin in San Anselmo, California. The Port Arthur native had left $2,500 in her will to throw a wake party when she died.
